WASHINGTON, DC – American University Athletics is rolling out their new initiative to build community through a series of special sports events, called “District Days.” District Days are about food, fun, community, and cheering on the AU Eagles. Each AU Athletics team will have one District Day with unique themes, promotions, and vendors from the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) to enhance the overall experience for all who are in attendance. District Days also will increase support for AU student-athletes who exemplify success on and off the field, making AU’s student-athletes true role models for youth in the area.

AU Student-Athletes by the numbers in 2014-15:

  • Academic Honors: 8 student-athletes for 15 awards

  • Academic All-Conference: 16 student-athletes for 17 awards

  • Collective GPA: 3.41

  • Community service with Bear Buddies program, National Girls & Women in Sports Day, Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Foundation, Ulman Cancer Fund, Andrea Kauffman Sprint for the Cure 5K, American Heart Association’s DC Heart Walk, Children’s Miracle Network, and Beat the Streets DC

The AU student population is comprised of individuals from 137 countries and each of the 50 states1, with all sharing an unyielding love of community and passion for engagement. AU Athletics realized the creation of a series of special events appealing to the AU students and the DMV local area was absolutely essential to grow support for their student-athletes. District Days will be AU Athletics newest tradition to foster community and create long lasting AU Eagles fans for the present and future.
